Nothing will change in the Top Four of the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà after the seven matches of the fifth leg of the second round of the regular season are held on Wednesday, but beyond that, a lot will be in play during the evening in Italy.

The battle for fifth place in the standings should be particularly exciting as it involves three sides that are virtually even in the standings – Bergamo, who have 30 points, and Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 and Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio, who are tied with 29 and will face each other.

Coming from a 3-0 loss to defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, Bergamo depend only on their own efforts to remain in fifth place. The team will host SMI Roma Volley at 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT) and will continue in the Top Five it if takes home all three points in the match.

Ranked 13th with ten points, Roma also have a lot to play for as they are inside the relegation zone and need to take points from this match to have a chance of passing Honda Olivero Cuneo, who are 12th with 11 points and host third-placed Igor Gorgonzola Novara also at 20:30 (19:30 GMT).

The team from the Italian capital won two of the three Lega Femminile matches between the two sides, but it was Bergamo who came out on top in the first round of the regular season, winning 3-1 on the road.

Chieri and Busto looking to bounce back

If Bergamo drop points against Roma, they will be at risk of being passed by the winners of the match between Chieri and Busto, who are tied with 29 points and also play at 20:30 (19:30 GMT), in Busto Arsizio. Both sides will be looking to recover from weekend losses as while Chieri were upset by Bartoccini – MC Restauri Perugia, losing 3-1, Busto couldn’t handle second-placed Savino Del Bene Scandicci on the road, falling in straight sets.

Busto have been slightly more successful in the direct battles in the Italian League, taking the win in eight of the 15 matches played. That was the case in the first round of the regular season, when they swept their rivals on the road, ending a series of five consecutive Chieri victories.

“January has been a challenging month for us and Chieri will be another tough opponent,” said Busto’s outside hitter Rebecca Piva. “Our victory in the first round was incredible and I believe that Chieri will come into our arena determined to get revenge. We didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for this match, but we can’t wait to be with our fans again and try to secure what would be important points in the standings.”

Ranked eighth with 23 points, Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia will end the day inside the qualification zone for the playoffs regardless of the result of their road match against Conegliano, which is also scheduled for 20:30 (19:30 GMT).

Their gap over ninth-placed Wash4Green Pinerolo could, however, go down to just two points if their rivals, who currently have 18, take all three points against Perugia on the road – they also play at 20:30 (19:30 GMT).
