The battle for third place in the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà continues this weekend, with Igor Gorgonzola Novara and Numia Vero Volley Milano vying for a spot in the Italian League’s Top Three during the seventh leg of the second round of the regular season.

Tied with 41 points, the two sides will be on the road on Sunday, with Novara meeting Bartoccini-MC Restauri Perugia at 16:00 local time (15:00 GMT) and Milano visiting Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio one hour later.

Currently in third place because of their higher number of victories (15 to 14), Novara depend only on their own efforts against Perugia as a 3-0 or 3-1 victory over their 11th-placed opponents would be enough to keep their spot in the standings.

Novara saw their seven-match winning streak in the Italian League end against Honda Olivero Cuneo ten days ago, but responded well, beating Il Bisonte Firenze last weekend to continue in great form in the tournament.

Their opponents Perugia are just one point above the relegation zone and need to collect points in their remaining seven matches to continue in the Italian elite in 2025-2026. They earned just three points in their last six matches, with one win and five losses.

Getting points against Novara will be a tough task for Perugia, though, as they are yet to beat their opponents in 11 encounters.

Milano have one game in hand

Milano took advantage of Novara’s hiccup against Cuneo earlier this month to eliminate the gap between the teams. Despite currently ranking fourth, the 2024 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship bronze medalists are on the driver's seat in their battle as they have only 18 matches played to Novara’s 19 and depend only on their own results to climb to third place.

Milano have four wins in their last five matches, having only lost to Novara when the teams met in the first match of the New Year. Last weekend, they swept Perugia.

Their opponents Busto are currently in seventh place with 32 points (11 wins, seven losses), on pace to qualify for the playoffs, but they still want to improve their position in the standings before the start of the postseason. They had mixed results in their most recent matches, getting two wins and three losses.

Sunday’s match will also serve to break the tie in the historical series between the teams, which now shows 14 victories for each side.

First match on Saturday

The weekend schedule of the Italian League starts on Saturday, at 21:00 local time (20:00 GMT), with the encounter between Cda Volley Talmassons Fvg and Wash4Green Pinerolo. Sunday’s action will begin at 15:00 local time (14:00 GMT), with the duel involving Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia and SMI Roma Volley.
