The weekend results intensified the fight for better spots ahead of the playoffs as while defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano are clear at the top of the standings with 39 points, the next four sides – Scandicci (30), Numia Vero Volley Milano (28), Novara (27) and Busto (26) – are all within no more than four points from each other.

The Derby between Novara and Scandicci was one of five matches held in Italy over the weekend and saw the home team win 3-2 (24-26, 25-13, 25-19, 22-25, 15-10) after five exciting sets.

Novara counted on their Big Three of Tatiana Tolok, Lina Alsmeier and Mayu Ishikawa to take the victory as while the Russian opposite led the team with 21 points (19 kills, two aces), the German and the Japanese outside hitters were also extremely productive, adding 20 and 18 points, respectively.

"I'm so happy for my team," libero Eleonora Fersino reacted. "Congratulations to Scandicci for an excellent match, but even more to us, because we played with great determination and were very strong technically and tactically. We also need to thank the fans, who created an incredible atmosphere."

Olympic champion opposite Ekaterina Antropova was Scandicci’s leading scorer with 20 points (18 kills, one ace, one block), followed by Belgian outside hitter and team captain Britt Herbots, who registered 13, with ten kills, two aces and one block.

With the two points earned with the victory, Novara managed to remain ahead of Busto, who, on Saturday, earned two points of their own with a 3-2 (24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 12-25, 15-12) road win over Cda Volley Talmassons Fvg.
