Wash4Green Monviso Volley and Omag-Mt San Giovanni In Marignano are set to meet on Sunday, in what could be one of the most impactful and dramatic matches of the 2025-2026 Lega Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà regular season.

Battling neck and neck to avoid relegation, the teams will face off during the ninth leg of the second round at 16:00 local time (15:00 UTC) in Villafranca Piemonte in a match that could have major weight in their fates.

With only five matches left before the end of the regular season, Monviso and San Giovanni are tied with 17 points. Because they have six victories to their opponents' five, Monviso are currently out of the relegation zone, appearing in 12th place, while San Giovanni rank 13th and are the first team inside it. With that, the winners of Sunday's match will end the week above the cutoff line.

The home team in what could be a season-defining match, Monviso showed strength in their last Lega Femminile match, beating eighth-placed Eurotek Laica UYBA Busto Arsizio on the road to earn points again after four consecutive losses.

"We know that Sunday's match will be critical for our season, and we'll approach it as a final," setter Ulrike Bridi said. "And considering how the standings look, we need to enter every match with the same mindset and fight until the last point."

Belarusian outside hitter Hanna Davyskiba has been an important asset to Monviso in their fight against relegation, leading the team's offense with 336 points scored and helping compensate for the absence of opposite Adhuoljok Malual, who left the team earlier this month after scoring 235 points. The team has also been getting solid production from its middle blockers, as American Anna Dodson has registered 196 points and French Olympian Amandha Sylvès has contributed 123.

San Giovanni also get to Sunday's decisive match in good spirits after sweeping Il Bisonte Firenze last week and winning back-to-back matches for the first time in the season. If three weeks ago the Italian League rookies seemed destined to return to the country's second division next season, the eight points secured in their last three matches gave the team new life and put it strongly in the mix to fight for a spot in the elite.

"Sunday's match will be key," head coach Massimo Bellano reflected. "It's not decisive, but it's one of just five matches left. Both teams know how big it will be, and our goal is not let that affect us mentally. There will be nerves, but we need to be ready to control them."

Signed during the season, Chinese national team outside hitter Zhuang Yushan has been a key piece in San Giovanni's improvement throughout their campaign. She produced 147 points in only nine matches and is already the team's second-best scorer, just seven behind fellow outside hitter Anna Piovesan.

The teams have met five times in Italian volleyball tournaments, and San Giovanni triumphed in three of them. Monviso, however, came out on top in the first round of the regular season despite playing on the road.

Cuneo and Busto play on Saturday

The ninth leg of the second round of the regular season starts on Saturday, at 20:30 (19:30 UTC), with a match that could alter the playoff picture, reuniting 11th-placed Honda Cuneo Granda Volley and eighth-placed Busto, the last team inside the qualification zone.

Another exciting matchup will take place on Sunday, at 17:00 (18:00 UTC), when fourth-placed Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri '76 host second-placed and reigning world champions Savino Del Bene Scandicci.

At the same time, 14th-placed Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia host ninth-placed Bergamo, seventh-placed Firenze face third-placed Numia Vero Volley Milano and league leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano play at home against tenth-placed CBF Balducci HR Macerata.
