Three days after passing Igor Gorgonzola Novara for third place in the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà, Numia Vero Volley Milano will have an opportunity to create some separation from their opponents as the tournament’s regular season nears its end.

The FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club Championship bronze medalists will host Wash4Green Pinerolo on Wednesday, at 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT), in a postponed match of the first leg of the second round. Italian league leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, who took gold in the international tournament held last December, will also be on the court, going on the road against Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio at 20:30 (19:30 GMT).

Milano’s Sunday victory over Busto placed the team in third place in the Lega Femminile with 44 points. On Wednesday, they can see the gap between them and Novara, who have 42, grow to as many as five – to collect all three points, they need to win the match 3-0 or 3-1. A victory would also put them very close to second-placed Savino Del Bene Scandicci, who have 48 points, with six legs yet to be played before the end of the regular season.

The rise from fourth to third place in the Italian League has been a reflex of Milano’s great form in the tournament lately. Since they lost to Novara in the first match of the year, they secured all 12 points in play, while dropping just one set.

“Our goal is to consolidate our position in the standings,” said head coach Stefano Lavarini. “We want to win the points, but not only that. We want to improve our game when it comes to both quality and consistency. We need to make the most of our good moments and work hard to minimize the errors in specific situations.”

Currently in ninth place with 21 points (seven wins, 12 losses), Pinerolo need a good result to start a final push for a place in the playoffs – they are currently eight points behind eighth-placed Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia.

The team’s current form hasn’t been the best as, besides having lost their two most recent matches, they have two victories and three losses since the turn of the year.

“Unfortunately we haven’t been able to have a solid run of good results and I felt that the team lacked unity in the difficult moments,” head coach Michele Marchiaro reflected. “We have a tough sequence of matches now, starting with Milano, and the only way to recover our confidence and our technical skills is to work hard in the gym.”

The two sides have met seven times in the Italian League so far and Milano won all of them. In the teams’ first match of the current season, back in October, they triumphed 3-1 in Villafrance Piemonte.
