Numia Vero Volley Milano dethroned rivals Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and made history on Saturday, earning the club's first-ever national title by triumphing at the 2025 Supercoppa Italiana Fineco.

The Italian giants clashed in front of almost 7,000 fans at the Pala Trieste, in Trieste, and Milano managed to overcome their rivals for the first time in a final, prevailing 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 13-15, 15-12) to celebrate the title in the season-opening event of Italian women's volleyball in 2025-2026.

Milano's victory in Trieste put an end to what has been an incredible period of Conegliano's domination in Italian volleyball. Since 2019-2020, the Panthers have managed to win all three big trophies in Italy (the Lega Femminile, the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa) in each season, producing an impressive run of 18-straight tournament victories in the country.

In eight of those occasions (the Lega Femminile in 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2024-2025, the Coppa Italia in 2022-2023, 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 and the Supercoppa in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025), they triumphed over Milano in the final. As the teams also met for the titles of the CEV Champions League in 2023-2024 and the Courmayer Cup in 2024-2025, Milano have finally managed to beat Conegliano in a final after ten frustrated attempts.

The defeat also meant Conegliano saw their run of seven-straight Supercoppa titles (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024) came to an end by the hands of their rivals - but they continue to be the tournament's biggest winners with ten victories.

A former Conegliano player who helped the team win the treble in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, Milano's new captain and star opposite Paola Egonu was one of the main reasons for the end of their streak, producing a whopping 30 points (28 kills, one block, one ace). She received the tournament's MVP award.

"I'm incredibly proud of this team and this result," Egonu said. "We worked very hard to get here and started from scratch again. We believed until the end, never gave up and this is a big accomplishment for us."

Another former Panther, American outside hitter Khalia Lanier, who was with the team in the last two seasons, registered 14, with 12 kills and two blocks. Surprisingly, setter Francesca Bosio was the team's third-best scorer with eight points (four kills, three aces, one block).

Despite the defeat, Conegliano had the match's top scorer in star opposite Isabelle Haak, who left the court with 32 points (30 kills, one block, one ace) to her name. Slovenian outside hitter Fatoumatta Sillah added 11 off the bench.

The Italian League continues on Sunday

While Saturday was entirely reserved for the Supercoppa, Sunday will have as many as six matches of the Lega Femminile, with the remaining 12 participating teams competing in the fourth leg of the regular season.
