Paris Olympics MVP Paola Egonu delivered her third-best performance in the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà so far on Saturday and helped Numia Vero Volley Milano return to winning ways in the tournament.

The 2024 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship bronze medalists recovered from a dramatic five-set loss to Igor Gorgonzola Novara last weekend and swept Honda Olivero Cuneo 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-22) in the fourth leg of the second round of the regular season.

After missing the start of the season due to nasal surgery, Egonu seems to be finding her rhythm and had, on Saturday, her sixth-straight match with 20 or more points. The star opposite accounted for 26 of Milano’s points in the match, leaving the court with 22 kills, three blocks and one ace.

This was Egonu’s third most productive match in the Italian League this season – she tallied 28 points last week against Novara and 27 against Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia back in December.

Other standouts in Milano’s victory were outside hitters Miriam Sylla, who produced 11 points and earned the match’s MVP award, and Nika Daalderop, who also got to double digits with ten.

“I’m happy for the victory,” Sylla reacted. “We’re certainly not going through our best moment in the season, but the way we’re fighting for every point shows how much we want things to change. We’ve been working very hard every day and I’m sure that sooner or later that turning point will come for us.”

Cuneo had American middle blocker Anna Dodson, with 12 points (eight kills, three blocks, one ace), and Russian outside hitter Anastasiia Kapralova, with 11 (all in kills), as their leading scorers.

Milano remain in fourth place in the standings, now with 35 points (12 wins, four losses). Cuneo, who are fighting to avoid relegation, are 12th, with 11 points (three wins, 14 losses).

Vallefoglia win in the tie-breaker

Also on Saturday, Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia triumphed in the only five-setter of the weekend, downing Cda Volley Talmassons Fvg 3-2 (30-32, 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 15-11) with American outside hitter Simone Lee leading the way with 23 points.

The top three teams in the Italian League all played on Sunday and had no trouble securing victories as league leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano topped Bergamo 3- 0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) on the road, second-placed Savino Del Bene Scandicci overcame Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17) in front of their fans and third-placed Novara returned home with a 3-0 (25-14, 29-27, 25-17) win over SMI Roma Volley.

Also on Sunday, Wash4Green downed Il Bisonte Firenze 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-22) at home and Bartoccini-MC Restauri Perugia secured a big road win over Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76, triumphing 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21).
