Cuneo’s most experienced player, 32-year-old Serbian opposite Ana Bjelica had a tremendous performance, carrying the team’s offense with a match-high 32 points (26 kills, four blocks, two aces). She also took home the match’s MVP award.
Russian outside hitter Anastasiia Kapralova, with 16 points (all in kills), and Dutch middle blocker Tessa Polder, with 12 (seven kills, five blocks), also got to double digits in scoring.
“We really wanted to play a good match and get the points tonight,” said setter Noemi Signorile. “Our goal is to avoid relegation and tonight we showed how hard we’re working for it. Novara were missing some players today, but they’re still a very strong team. These three points will help us in the standings, but also with our confidence.”
Novara, who didn’t have opposite Tatiana Tolok and middle blockers Sara Bonifacio and Federica Squarcini, got 20 points (18 kills, two blocks) from German outside hitter Lina Alsmeier and another 13 from American opposite Taylor Mims.
