With the two points obtained with the five-set victory, the reigning world champions went up to 34 (12 wins) and continue clear at the top of the standings. The gap to second-placed Savino Del Bene Scandicci, which also played on Wednesday and took all three points against Wash4Green Monviso Volley, however, went down from seven to six points as their rivals got to 28 (ten wins, two losses).
Limiting the playing time of opposite Isabelle Haak and outside hitter Gabriela 'Gabi' Guimarães, Conegliano saw outside hitters Fatoumatta Sillah and Nika Daalderop step up and lead the team to victory. While the young Slovenian led the team's offense with 19 points (16 kills, three blocks), the Dutch registered 18 (15 kills, two blocks, one ace) and took home the match's MVP award. Opposite Merit Adigwe had a strong shift off the bench, producing 16 points (nine kills, four aces, three blocks), two more than middle blocker Cristina Chirichella.
"Getting to play for this team means a lot, and my teammates helped me so much," said 21-year-old middle blocker Matilde Munarini, who made her Conegliano debut on Wednesday and scored seven points. "But winning the match was the most important thing today, and that's what matters."
