As Conegliano won both the Lega Femminile and the Coppa Italia, Milano, which ranked second in the domestic cup, earned the right to challenge them in this year's Supercoppa. With that, the teams will clash for the title for a third-straight season - the Panthers won on both occasions.
Conegliano, are, in fact, the team with the most Supercoppa victories, having triumphed in the event in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, accumulating eight titles. Milano will be looking for their first triumph.
The match will reunite six of the 14 players who helped Italy win their second World Championship title last month, with libero Monica De Gennaro and middle blocker Sarah Fahr playing for Conegliano and opposite Paola Egonu, middle blockers Anna Danesi and Benedetta Sartori and libero Eleonora Fersino representing Milano.
There will also be international stars on both sides, with Brazilian outside hitter Gabriela 'Gabi' Guimarães, Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak and Polish setter Joanna Wołosz trying to help Conegliano keep its supremacy and Russian opposite Vita Akimova, American outside hitter Khalia Lanier and Serbian middle blocker Hena Kurtagić strengthening Milano's push for their first title.
Conegliano and Milano have established themselves as the top teams in Italian women's volleyball in the last four years. They have met in ten finals since then - four in the Coppa Italia, two in the Lega Femminile and the Supercoppa and one in each of the European Champions League and the Courmayeur Cup - and the Panthers won all of them.
The defending champions will enter the court on Saturday in the middle of a massive winning streak against their rivals, which saw them win every duel held since May 2023, accumulating 16 consecutive victories in official matches. The teams have met 41 times in Italian domestic tournaments, and Conegliano have won 36 times.
