The match had an exciting battle between the two opposites that helped Italy take gold at the Paris Olympics last year. They produced 30 points each, with Paola Egonu registering 28 kills and two blocks for Milano and Ekaterina Antropova tallying 26 kills, three blocks and one ace for Scandicci.
After Egonu, fellow Olympic champions Miriam Sylla, with 14 points (11 kills, two blocks, one ace), and Anna Danesi, with 11 (seven kills, four blocks), were also key players for Milano.
“This was the first time we managed to win a match against one of the top teams in the country this season and we’re happy for it,” Danesi, the match’s MVP, reacted. “I thought we could have done better in the second set, but I’m happy about how we reacted. We’ll play for the title tomorrow and, against Conegliano, it’s always going to be a challenge.”
Scandicci had in Belgian outside hitter Britt Herbots and middle blocker Linda Nwakalor their second-best scorers, with 14 points each.
