After smoothly navigating the first week of the 2025 American Women’s Pro Volleyball Federation league with two victories, defending champions Omaha Supernovas are ready to continue their winning streak in the tournament.

The Nebraska side will make the trip West on Friday to face the Vegas Thrill at 19:00 local time (3:00 GMT, Saturday), in one of the eight matches set to take place from Thursday to Sunday, in the second weekend of action of the league’s second season.

The Supernovas’ title defense started in great fashion last week as the team came back twice to beat the Atlanta Vibe 3-2 in front of their home fans with a record-setting attendance in their opening match of the season on Friday, before making the trip to Michigan, where they swept the Grand Rapids Rise on Sunday.

A returning player from their successful 2024 campaign, 24-year-old outside hitter Brooke Nuneviller was the team’s most productive player in the opening weekend, tallying 38 points across both matches.

A new face with the Supernovas, Colombian national team libero Camila Gómez had a promising start, delivering 31 digs and 26 passes in the five-set victory against the Vibe.

The Thrill’s 2025 campaign also started with a tie-breaker as the team needed all five sets to beat the Rise at home on Friday. They were at home again on Sunday, but fell to the Vibe, losing 3-0 in the final match of the weekend in the league.

History was made for the team and the tournament in the first match of the season, though, as setter Alisha Glass, a bronze medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympics, set a new assists record for five-set matches in the league, delivering 72 against the Rise.

Offensively, outside hitter Charitie Luper, who ended the first week of the season with 24 points, was the team’s leading scorer.

The two teams met four times in the Pro Volleyball Federation first season, with the Thrill winning the first duel and the Supernovas prevailing in the other three.

Both the Supernovas and the Thrill will have other matches to play after their Friday encounter, with the Omaha side returning home to face the San Diego Mojo at 15:00 local time (21:00 GMT) on Sunday and the Las Vegas team hosting the Orlando Valkyries four hours later on the same day.

First matches on Thursday

The second week of the Pro Volleyball Federation league will start with a triple-header on Thursday. Rookies Indy Ignite will host the Rise at 19:00 local time (00:00 GMT, Friday), the same start time for the duel between the Vibe and the Columbus Fury. At 19:05 local time (3:05 GMT, Friday), the Mojo will face the Valkyries.

The weekly schedule continues on Saturday, with the Midwest duel between the Fury and the Ignite, at 19:00 local time (00:00 GMT, Sunday), and will also feature a matchup between the Vibe and the Rise on Sunday, at 18:00 local time (23:00 GMT).
