After their gold at the Ios Futures and bronze at the Balikesir Futures, Van der Loo & Sengers made it three podiums out of three appearances on the Beach Pro Tour as a duo. They registered a 5-1 win-loss record in Malmo, enough to finish in first place. The third-seeded Dutch duo came back from a set down in their semifinal against sixth-seeded Swedes Theodor Grahn & Linus Isaksson to celebrate a 2-1 (15-21, 21-17, 15-13) victory and move on to the gold medal showdown, in which they overcame the pairing of 2025 FIVB World Championship silver medalist Jacob Holting Nilsson with Alfred Mjornheim in a another hard-fought three-set duel, 2-1 (21-17, 24-26, 15-13).
Upon Mjornheim’s Beach Pro Tour debut, the second-seeded Swedish duo claimed silver. They reached the Malmo final undefeated in four three-set matches played. Their dramatic run was crowned with a 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 17-15) comeback against Norway’s Sebastian Kjemperud & Jonah Kjemperud in the semifinals.
The third-seeded Norwegians recovered from their only loss of the tournament with success in the third-place playoff. 18-year-old Sebastian and 20-year-old Jonah registered a 2-0 (21-16, 21-4) win over Grahn & Isaksson to bring home bronze, their second (consecutive) Beach Pro Tour medal, after their Wuhan Futures gold in May.
26 men’s pairs representing 14 different federations took part in the Malmo Futures.
The next Futures stop on the Beach Pro Tour will be held in Laginha Beach, Cabo Verde from July 23 to 26.
